The QC8067 4G Trail camera can accept phone SIM cards with a data plan from Optus or Telstra by default. If you want to use other telcos, please update the firmware. The firmware file contains instructions and a how-to video - unzip the file to access them.
Make sure the SIM card has been activated by the telco before you put it into the camera, as some telcos will take hours to activate new SIMs. To check it was activated successfully, put the SIM in a mobile phone, and make sure you can browse the web with the Wi-Fi switched off.
Once the SIM is activated, install it in the camera (Notch cut faces out and down).
Switch the camera into SETUP mode and look at the screen - there should be a signal-bars symbol in the top row with some arrows above it. They will initially be red.
The signal indicator arrows will turn white when the camera has successfully made contact with its server via the Telco network.
It can take some time for the camera to register with the telco, so please give it a minute or two. Switch the camera off and on again if you have made any changes to the settings.
If the arrows are still red after 2-3 minutes, the SIM card is not a supported type (update the firmware), is not activated, you have not entered an APN, or there are no compatible telco towers within range.
If you update the firmware, you must set the telco APN (Access Point Name - internet gateway) in the camera to match your camera's SIM card telco APN.
Once you have updated the firmware, switch the three-position switch to the middle SETUP position, press the MENU button, use the right arrow to go to the Cellular menu (satellite dish), then press the down arrow to go to APN, and press OK. Use the up/down arrows to enter the APN letters and full-stops as needed, and press the right arrow to go to the next letter. Press OK when done to save.
Australian APNs - check with your telco in case they have changed:
Aldi - TELSTRA.INTERNET or MDATA.NET.AU
Amaysim - INTERNET or YESINTERNET
Optus - CONNECT or CONNECTME
Telstra, Boost - TELSTRA.MMS
Vodafone, TPG, Kogan - LIVE.VODAFONE.COM
Pairing the QC8067 camera with the App
Open the Camera Trap Wireless App, create an account, and confirm the email it sends you.
Open the App again, click the Camera at the bottom of the app
Now click the + symbol on the top right.
On the camera, switch the 3-position switch to the SETUP middle position
Use the right arrow button to go to the Cellular menu (satellite dish).
Use the down arrow to choose Status QR Code and press OK
Move your phone camera over the trail camera screen to scan the QR code.
You should be able to connect to it via the app shortly after. The signal status arrows need to be white.
You can check the signal strength in the Connection Status menu - it will take around 30 seconds. Try turning the camera off and on if it does not connect within 2-3 minutes.
Note that the speed of the telco network determines how long it takes to refresh the list of images from the camera - it is not instantaneous.
Selling/returning/gifting the QC8067 camera to someone else?
If you want to give the camera to someone else, you need to remove it from the App by swiping the camera to the left, and choosing Delete, or the next user will not be able to connect the camera to their account in the App.
